Introduction to Pilates
Pilates helps people of all ages develop optimal strength, flexibility, endurance and posture, without stressing joints. Pilates is a perfect complement to cardiovascular exercise, athletic training, or rehabilitation from injury. Pilates at MN Integrative Health Studio is done in private, one-on-one sessions utilizing mat-based exercise, as well as the Pilates reformer and chair equipment. Private training allows for every session to be tailored to each client and focus completely on their specific needs. We also offer duo mat Pilates training where you can share the benefits of Pilates with a friend or family member!
MORE ABOUT PILATES
Pilates, pioneered by the late Joseph Pilates, is a mind-body exercise system designed to optimize physical fitness in people at every level of physical ability. Joseph Pilates (1880–1967) was a German expatriate who first made his mark in England during WWI by developing a series of exercises and innovative equipment to help prisoners of war regain strength and mobility. When Joseph Pilates immigrated to New York, the local professional dance community discovered that his conditioning technique helped prevent injury and improve strength while maintaining long, even muscle tone.
Although you should always consult your physician before starting any fitness routine, a Pilates workout is gentle and controlled with a focus on core strength and stability. An experienced instructor is able to modify the exercises to accommodate your limitations, continually challenge you within your ability, and monitor your improvements. At Minnesota Integrative Health Studio we have certified Pilates instructors with the experience to lead you through exercises whether you are looking to complement your current exercise routine, increase strength and flexibility, or to rehabilitate from injury.
Larissa, head of our Pilates studio, first became certified in 2009 through STOTT PILATES®. STOTT PILATES® is a contemporary approach to the original exercise method pioneered by Joseph Pilates. The co-founders of STOTT PILATES®, along with a team of physical therapists, sports medicine and fitness professionals, have spent three decades refining the STOTT PILATES® method of exercise and equipment. This resulted in the inclusion of modern principles of exercise science, fascial fitness and spinal rehabilitation, making it one of the safest and most effective methods available. This clear and detailed approach forms the basis for STOTT PILATES® training and Certification programs. STOTT PILATES® is used by rehab, post-rehab and prenatal clients, athletes, celebrities and everyone in between.
